Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain USV/AUV & associated payload systems to manufacturers guidelines and company Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Ensure USV and AUV survey payloads are integrated and functional.
  • Ensure LARS system are integrated and functional.
  • Carry out repairs, testing and inspections of equipment.
  • Integrate new systems and define concept of operation.
  • Operate integrated technologies and train operational teams.
  • Liaison with OEM to diagnose faults and improve performance.
  • Complete fault reports and record rectification efforts.
  • Carry out premobilisation, mobilisation and pre-deployment checks as per manufacturers and department guidelines.
  • Carry out pre-deployment check before mission commencement.
  • Participate in launch and recovery of equipment from quayside/deck.
  • Maintain logs during field operations and all other vessel logs at all times, to include maintenance log, issue tracker, material requests, and any other logs that may be utilized by the department.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments (RA).
  • Communicate with local authorities in project locations.
  • Contributes to the continuous development of the Development IMS.

Skills Requirements

  • Basic understanding of marine mechanical systems.
  • Good understanding of marine electronics and power generation.
  • Understanding of USV/AUV technology and remote operations.
  • Good understanding of IT infrastructure and networking.
  • Good understanding of typical navigational equipment (GNSS/IMU/MRU/Radar/Lidar).
  • Good understanding of communications systems (WIFI, 4G, Sat Comms).
  • Good understanding of typical USV/AUV payload equipment (SBP/MBES/CTDS).
  • Strong understanding of survey acquisition online systems.
  • Genuine interest in maritime autonomy and future technologies.
  • Willing to travel internationally as required by the project.
  • Ability to work in small teams.
  • Can calibrate and operate positioning systems.

Experience, Competency and Qualifications

  • Relevant knowledge/experience working as a Survey technician/engineer or working directly as a technician on a USV or AUV.
  • Experience in a USV or AUV field or yard environment, preferrable but not essential.
  • Relevant knowledge/experience of Offshore Survey operations.
  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) (or equivalent) or higher in engineering or a discipline related to marine technology or equivalent field experience.
  • Must have or be able to obtain all industry required certificates to work offshore.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid passport and/or visas to travel internationally.
  • Must have a full driver’s license.
